“A look under the waves” will be a presentation by Nicole Miller about the Taputeranga Marine Reserve and Wellington Harbour. Come along and experience a virtual dive in Taputeranga Marine Reserve on the Trust’s VR headsets and without getting wet!

You’ll learn about the history of the marine reserve, the Friends of Taputeranga Marine Reserve Trust, and the Trust's work connecting the local community to the reserve. Nicole will also talk about the pressures on our local marine environment outside the reserve and the restoration of Wellington’s Underwater Forests.

This keynote presentation is part of the Southern Bays Historical Society Quarterly Meeting. This is also a great opportunity to come along and get involved with the Southern Bays Historical Society!

Dr Nicole Miller is Chairperson of the Friends of Taputeranga Marine Reserve Charitable Trust. The Trust keeps up the Island Bay Snorkel Trail, creates educational material on marine life and the marine reserve rules and supports school and public outreach programmes. The Trust also promotes marine science and management best-practice  and advocates for the reserve through direct work with the Department of Conservation, submissions and participation in reference groups.
